Apartment removals
across HA6.

Northwood is not all large houses. Around the station and through Northwood Hills there is a good deal of apartment stock — purpose-built blocks and converted houses — and the two behave nothing alike.

Apartment moves do not fail on volume. A one-bed is a one-bed. They fail on the route between the flat door and the vehicle, and on a permission somebody needed and did not obtain.

The two kinds here

Purpose-built blocks

Concentrated around Northwood and Northwood Hills stations, and among the newer development on the Rickmansworth Road side. A lift, a loading area, and a management company with a process.

On paper the easiest moves we do. In practice the building sets the timetable — lift bookings, permitted hours, insurance lodged in advance, and occasionally a rule against weekend moves. None of that is difficult; all of it is slow, so it starts when you get the date rather than the week before.

Converted houses

Large interwar and Edwardian houses divided into two or three flats — common through Northwood Hills. One original staircase serving everybody, narrow treads, a turn at each landing, and original detail that marks.

The route out is shared with people who did not ask to be part of your move, which is why we board and pad it before starting rather than afterwards.

The pieces that cause trouble

Three-seater sofas, sprung mattresses, tall wardrobes and full-height bookcases. In a conversion the question is never whether we can carry them but whether the geometry lets them through. If you are unsure, send a photograph of the staircase and the landing — it takes seconds and prevents a difficult conversation halfway up.

What we need before quoting

The floor at each end. Whether there is a lift and roughly its internal size. Whether the staircase turns. Where the vehicle may stand — including whether the address is on a private road. And how far the carry is from there to the door.

A whole house instead? House removals. One room or a single item? Man and van.

Apartment move questions

Does the block need notice?

In a managed block, usually — a booked lift, a loading bay or bay suspension, and often evidence of our insurance lodged with the managing agent. Ask them the day you have a date. It is the most common reason an apartment move gets postponed and it has nothing to do with the removals firm.

What if there is no lift?

Then the stairs set the crew size and we scale accordingly. Northwood Hills has a number of low-rise blocks and converted houses without one. What we need to know is the floor and whether the staircase turns — a turn stops a sofa where a straight flight will not.

Are conversions different from purpose-built blocks?

Considerably. A converted house has one original staircase serving several households, narrow treads and bannisters that mark. A purpose-built block has better access and a management process instead. Easier physically, slower administratively.

Do you protect communal areas?

Always. In a block it matters more than in a house — the managing agent inspects, residents notice, and communal damage becomes a service-charge conversation. Floors boarded, bannisters padded, lift interiors covered before anything moves.

Can you move part of a furnished flat?

Yes. Part-furnished lets mean some things go and some stay, and that is far better agreed and inventoried at survey than worked out on the morning with an agent waiting for keys.

Moving an apartment in HA6?

Both addresses, roughly what is going, and whether the property is on a private road. We will arrange a survey and put the figure in writing.
