Private estate

Moor Park
removals.

A private estate of private roads laid out around a golf course, with a Grade I mansion at its centre. Moves here run to the estate's arrangements rather than to ours, and the firms that get that wrong find out at the entrance.

Moor Park sits immediately north of Northwood and is unlike anywhere else in the patch. The estate was developed from the 1920s around the golf course and the existing mansion, and it has remained privately managed since — the roads within it are private, not adopted.

For a removals firm that single fact changes the planning more than the houses do.

What the private-road status means in practice

Where a vehicle may stand, for how long, and at what hours are matters for the estate rather than the council. There may be restrictions on vehicle size, on obstructing a carriageway, or on working at particular times.

We confirm the position in advance for your address rather than assuming, and where something needs arranging we arrange it before the day. That call takes a few minutes and it is the difference between a move that starts on time and a lorry parked at an entrance with nowhere to go.

The houses

Substantial and varied. A great deal of interwar detached property — mock-Tudor, arts-and-crafts and neo-Georgian — alongside later houses and some very considerable modern rebuilds. Plots are large, driveways are long and frequently gravelled, and mature planting often means the approach to the door is narrower than the drive suggests.

Inside, the recurring features are the ones common to good interwar building: fine staircases that mark easily, galleried landings, and large rooms reached through comparatively modest doorways.

How we work here

  • Estate access and vehicle arrangements confirmed before the day
  • In-person survey, always, for property of this size
  • Shuttle vehicle where a long or gravelled drive makes it sensible
  • Staircases and floors boarded and padded before anything moves
  • Antiques, art and polished furniture wrapped rather than blanketed
  • Discreet working — vehicles off the frontage where there is room

Discretion

Worth saying plainly because people are sometimes reluctant to ask. If you would rather the move were not conducted in full view of the road, say so. Keeping vehicles tucked away, working to a side entrance, and not leaving furniture standing on a driveway are all straightforward to plan for.

Moor Park questions

Do you need permission to bring a lorry onto the estate?

Access arrangements on a private estate are set by the estate, not the local authority, and they can cover permitted hours, vehicle size and where a vehicle may stand. We confirm the position with the estate before the day rather than turning up at the entrance and finding out. It is a short call and it prevents the worst possible start to a move.

How discreet can you be?

As discreet as you would like. Vehicles kept off the frontage where there is room, crews working to the side or rear entrance, and no unnecessary standing about on the road. It is a common request here and an entirely reasonable one.

What is the housing actually like?

Varied and generally large. The estate was laid out around the golf course in the 1920s and 30s, so there is a great deal of substantial interwar detached property — mock-Tudor, arts-and-crafts and neo-Georgian — alongside later houses and some considerable modern rebuilds. Plots are big and driveways are long.

Does the long driveway matter?

It adds carry time, and gravel adds more. A loaded trolley does not travel well on gravel, so we either plan a longer carry or bring a smaller shuttle vehicle closer to the door where the drive allows it. Either way it is priced honestly rather than absorbed into a bad afternoon.
